The Read To Me Pillow

If you are over from Sew In Tune this morning, welcome! For those of you who aren't familiar with Sew In Tune it's a fun series that Melissa and Stacey host each year, where you make something inspired by a song.

I admit, I was completely stumped for weeks! I ended up choosing a favorite that both my son and I share-- So Many Ways by Mr Rodgers. Like many of you, I've been a huge, huge fan of Mr. Rodgers from way back. I loved this song, and was so thrilled when one of my son's favorite programs decided to do a 'remix.'

You can see the original version here...

And the new, fast paced, 2012 version here. (I know that some international readers might not be able to see this video, but trust me, it's super cute!)

The remixed version features a heart that is shared between the father and son, so I decided to make something that my son and I could share together. I came up with a "reading pillow."

We do nightly bedtime stories, and I've often wished for a big pillow that we can lean up against so we can both see the book easily. This pillow fits the bill!

It also has a handy pocket to store the book we are working on.

I appliqued a big heart on the front, just like the one in the song. Because, you know, making something is one way to say, "I love you."

Since the pillow cover won't be washed much (I hope!) I just did a simple straight stitch to attach the heart.

The body of the pillow is made from pieced equilateral triangles. You might remember that I had started sewing them without a plan, and they worked just perfectly for this pillow.  I just have to show off the one and only corner where all 6 of my triangle points came together perfectly.

Although Ishaan was super excited to see the pillow, I had a tough time getting photos of him with it. Can you see him in this one?
