Grab your box of trim and your dandiya and meet me back at the blog for some decorating fun!
To decorate you'll need;
- Your dandiya
- Ribbon or rick rac (this is a great time to use up scraps!)
- Needle and thread or Fabric glue or hot glue
And then your decorations. I used some metallic trim and satin ribbon. You could also use scraps of brocade or embroidered fabric. Learn from my mistake-- check how much ribbon you have! I ran out of pink ribbon on this set and my pair doesn't look the same. Oops!
Use pins to secure the ribbon while you test out patterns you like. I used a double 'candy stripe' pattern on both of mine.
Glue or sew everything down hiding the ends as you go. I found it works best if you keep the ribbon a little taught while securing.
My daughter still loves to mouth things so I chose to sew my ribbon down. If you are sewing, use the magic hand stitch to tack the ribbon down. I put a stitch every where the ribbon crosses, and it's holding up fine.
The last step is to practice your Raas! The kids and I had so much fun-- and I didn't have to worry about anyone getting hurt (although we are all dizzy from spinning.)

If you have a few minutes check out this neat iron review and giveaway by Anshu at Blooms and Bugs! She is so talented and as sweet as pie. Last I checked there were 22 entries, so if you need an iron, you have a good shot at winning. :) Have a good Friday everyone! We'll be back next week with some Halloween tutorials and more sewing fun.
This is all sorts of wonderful! I am going to attempt these. Much safer than the wooden version I have in my 3 yo's hands. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy son is 3 and they love these. (And I love not having to 'over manage' their play!) If you give it a shot-- I'd love to see them if you ever take pictures :)
