This is one of the oldest; longest running projects that I'm posting here. When I was pregnant with Amaani I got it into my head that my kids HAD to have hand-made quilts in order to feel loved after the 'new baby' came. Those of you who have been pregnant will understand the combination of urgency and insanity that is nesting.
Kartik and Ishaan ended up driving an hour with me to find the fabric for the top , and I made my sister come to Jo-ann's to pick out the backing... and then I dragged my poor mom back there next weekend so I could get a price adjustment on the batting.
I wanted to have the done by Ishaan's first birthday, Christmas (2010), then when Amaani was born... but I'm happy to have finally finished them.
It took for.ev.er. I was so happy when I got them downstairs and showd them to Ishaan and Amaani. Amaani loves hers and has been using it all weekend. She gums the binding and wipes her nose on it just like I hoped.
Ishaan took one look at his and said "No, mama... I don't like it no stars." in this sing song voice like I was the toddler, and he was the adult.
I'm just going to wait another week and show it to him again. If he still doesn't like it-- I'll sleep with it!
OMG they are fab!! I am still trying to finish mine that I started in college! What an accomplishment! They look great!

ReplyDeleteThanks you guys! Leanne-- I just recently weeded out a bunch of 'I'm-never-ever-going-to-finish-this-' projects, but I had too much invested in these quilts. Don't feel bad about yours from college!
ReplyDeleteNiki, I'm still trying to trick him into sleeping with it! He's stuck on the bear one that Aditi's mom made him (which we love, of course!)
It s funny how my first ever quilt looked very similar! i only quilted in the ditch though and used soft lilacs, purples and beiges. I love the warm earthy colors you have used. It is a great projects to complete with charm packs and a few solids.
